Gold Standard Award for Number One, Kirkstall Forge

31.07.2018 | News

Number One, Kirkstall Forge is proud to have achieved gold standard Bike Friendly Business accreditation from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s CityConnect programme. As just the sixth business to get to gold status, the award not only reflects the fantastic bike facilities; including cycle parking, showers and drying facilities, but also our efforts to create a buzz around cycling at the development.

Number One has benefitted from grant funding, advice and support from CityConnect on how to engage the community within the building and encourage cycling. An active employee bike club, regular free bike maintenance and competitions such as the free Love2Ride cycle challenge are just some of the initiatives underway. With Kirkstall Forge’s stylish shared bikes, it’s easy for staff to ride to meetings or enjoy just for recreation along the nearby Leeds – Liverpool canal.

Roger Marsh, Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Chair of the new Northern Powerhouse said: “We are proud to support development of Kirkstall Forge, a modern purpose built working and living environment.

I hope that other businesses follow suit in prioritising sustainable travel planning at all stages of development. Kirkstall Forge is a showcase for future enterprise, considering the environment as well as the health and wellbeing of people who live and work in the area.”

Emma Clarkson, Estates Manager said: “At Kirkstall Forge, sustainability and active travel are part and parcel of everyday life.”
